The opportunity:
Markel manages the business, Markel Law LLP, which provides legal and human resources consultancy services as well as our professional legal advice line service to our clients. We have a great opportunity for an Employment Law Advisor / Solicitor to join our team in Croydon on an initial 12-month FTC contract. Working 1 day per week in the office and 4 days from home.
What you’ll be doing:
* Delivery of high-quality legal advice on a variety of employment-related matters through both telephone and email communication.
* Reviewing and assisting with the drafting of documentation.
* Working in accordance with agreed service levels.
* Management of own workload ensuring that a high standard in relation to both productivity and efficiency is maintained.
* Maintaining a sound working knowledge of all aspects of commercial/non-employment law and standard practice.
* Liaising with and supporting fellow colleagues in a team-like manner as the operational needs of the business dictate.
* Ensuring relevant shifts are covered, including day and out of hours rotas as applicable.
* Maintaining and producing paper-based and electronic records where required.
* Liaising with Markel Law’s Litigation Unit and Manchester office as appropriate.
Our must-haves:
* Full knowledge and understanding of Employment Law, including redundancy, TUPE, disciplinaries, flexible working, etc.
* Experience of communicating effectively in a professional environment with a range of people.
* Good IT skills across Microsoft Word and Outlook.
* Excellent data entry skills and attention to detail/accuracy.
* Excellent customer care skills, with the ability to empathise with callers where necessary.
* Commercial awareness and the ability to offer both practical and legal solutions.
* Analytical and problem-solving approach to advice.
* Flexibility and adaptability within the commercial unit and assisting various employment teams as the needs of the business instruct.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while upholding company standards.
* Good document drafting skills and an eye for detail.
* Ability to gain and retain client confidence.
* Sound working knowledge of all appropriate electronic research facilities.
