Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Assistant Psychologist in the Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS), part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) CAMHS which sits within the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Our service is organized into three teams, Critical Care and Surgery, Medicine, and Neuropsychology. Our patients could be pre, post diagnosis or treatment, they may even be under long term follow up from their treatment here at RMCH / MRI / The Christie Hospital / Other satellite Hospitals; hence the work base will be varied.
Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is a regional paediatrics hospital. Psychosocial services are well regarded in the hospital and close relationships exist with our colleagues in paediatric (and indeed adult) medical specialties.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates would hold a good Honours Degree in Psychology (at least Class 2 Division 1), have a good knowledge of developmental and abnormal psychology, a clear understanding of psychological theory and interventions, and experience in working with children presenting with psychological problems.
Two of these posts will be based within the Paediatric Psychosocial Service at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and will be involved in providing support to qualified clinical staff, taking a role in direct assessment and interventions as well as undertaking audit and evaluation. The remaining post will be hosted at the Christie Hospital Protons Service in South Manchester supporting the new team being developed and established.
The Assistant Psychologist will be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist. They will have the opportunity to learn about how psychological services are offered to children, young people and their families, as well as gaining experience of Child and Adolescent Mental Health service delivery more generally. They will gain experience of psychometric assessment, individual clinical work, group-work, multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency working. They will also learn about inpatient CAMHS work and many topics very relevant to psychological interventions and assessment. A sound knowledge of Microsoft applications is required for this post in particularly in databases.
