We are excited to announce the development of our paediatric department with the extension of our Tier 2 (Senior Clinical Fellow) rota. We are seeking to employ 3 full-time Paediatric Senior Clinical Fellow. The Senior Clinical Fellow role provides an excellent opportunity for a paediatric trained doctor (ST3 or above) to maintain their clinical skills caring for children, young people and neonates in a ward environment and to gain experience of paediatric sub-specialities in a District General Hospital.
This unit has a long history of supporting and nurturing doctors including those from overseas to help them achieve their career goals.
All principal duties will be undertaken under the direct supervision of the Consultant and the wider Paediatric Team.
These positions are based at Ormskirk District General Hospital.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in a 1:11 on call rota at ST3+ level. This is equivalent to Tier 2 level (previously known as Registrar or Middle grade, now known as a Senior Clinical Fellow).
The Paediatric Department includes the dedicated Children's Accident & Emergency Department with a 4 bedded Assessment Bay, a 17-bedded in-patient ward and a 6-bed day case unit including facilities for adolescents. There is a designated Modern Paediatric Outpatient Department at Ormskirk Hospital.
The paediatric ward is responsible for providing 24 hours emergency admission facility to the children of the district along with routine planned admissions and day cases.
The Neonatal Unit has 12 cots including one for Intensive Care (Level 2) with more room for expansion if needed. The current number of deliveries is around 3,100 per annum, The Neonatal Unit is part of the Cheshire and Mersey Neonatal Intensive Care Network.
The emergency department sees approximately 28,000 patients a year. There is a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant with additional consultant cover provided by the general Emergency Medicine Consultants.

Duties and Responsibilities
You will contribute to the care of both inpatients and outpatients, this care is supported by Consultants and the wider Paediatric team. The post holder will participate in a 1:11 on call rota at ST3+ level. This is equivalent to Tier 2 level (previously known as Registrar, now known as a Senior Clinical Fellow)
The Trust provides a combination of services, which are split between the two hospital sites namely Southport & Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. The Paediatric Unit is based at the Ormskirk Site.
The duties include, and are not limited to:
* In patient Care
* Assessment Bay
* Outpatient clinics
* Attending deliveries in labour ward when paediatric support is required
* Contribute to the management of babies admitted to the neonatal unit
* Support Paediatric A& E and provide cover out of hours. You will be the senior most paediatric doctor resident out of hours and will be supported by non-resident consultant who can attend for support within 30 minutes
* Senior Clinical fellow will support and participate in the teaching and supervision of the work and duties of the Junior Clinical Fellow and the wider Paediatric Team.
* Senior Clinical Fellows will assist in the compilation, checking and analysis of data for medical audit.
* The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
* The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
Professional Responsibilities
Applicants should have at least 12 months experience at Senior Clinical Fellow (Registrar) level in paediatrics. You should have Paediatric life support skills and New-born life support skills.
Possession of a recognised medical qualification and full registration with the General Medical Council and Licence to Practice.
The post is subject to Enhanced DBS.
To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health.
Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control policies relevant to the post, particularly with regard to the hand hygiene policy.
Satisfactory medical clearance is a condition of employment.
General Medical Council registration and Licence to Practice
Abide by relevant Code of Professional Practice.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities
Every opportunity will be provided to the appointee to develop special interests and skills in aspects of medical care, information technology, medical audit, etc. The post holder will maintain his/her own continuing professional development in line with current guidelines on professional responsibilities.
There is a Postgraduate Medical Education Centre on the Hospital sites with library and study facilities. Study leave will be provided to support and develop the post holders interests.
Research & Audit Responsibilities
There may be opportunities for participation in Research and Development within the Trust either as a collaborator, a principal investigator or as an observer and the trust will endeavour to encourage and support this. The researcher should adhere to the principles of Research Governance in the domains of ethics, science, information and data protection, health and safety, employment and financial probity. Members of staff wishing to participate in research activity are required in the first instance to contact the Research and Development Department.
