This position has no routine scheduled evenings beyond 17.30 however there is an on call commitment and the theatre team do work at the weekend.
What you'll be doing
You will be working as part of a friendly, welcoming and expert multidisciplinary Theatre Team supported by our experienced Theatre Manager, Sarah.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* To be responsible for the cleaning and disinfection of the theatre and equipment, in between, and after the daily theatre cases.
* To participate in the management of infection control within the department.
* To be responsible for the total patient care in your care during the peri-operative phase.
* To act as the advocate for the patient during the intra-operative phase and understand the patient depending on the theatre staff for:
o preventing injuries
o maintaining privacy and confidentiality
o preventing sepsis
* To understand and execute the correct procedure regarding:
o Informed consent form for treatment and surgery and administration of blood and blood products.
o Intra-operative record sheets
o Theatre register; all other relevant registers and documentation
o Laboratory forms: biochemistry, cross match of blood, and bacteriology.
o To be accountable for the charging of items used in theatre.
o The TSSU procedure for decontamination, validation and sterilisation of instrumentation.
o Preventing medical legal hazards
What we'll look for in you
You will be a part 1 registered NMC Nurse or an HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner and it is essential that you have previous experience in major orthopaedics, general surgery scrub and anaesthetic experience is desirable but not essential.
As well as being up to date with current research and developments in theatre practice you will have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety/Risk management within the operating department. You will be responsible for ensuring the continual cleanliness of the theatre and equipment.
It goes without saying privacy and confidentiality are key throughout the team and you will act as an advocate for the patient in the intra-operative phase and be responsible for total patient care in the perioperative phase.
