A prominent infrastructure business based in London Victoria is seeking a construction lawyer to join its high-performing legal team on a part-time basis. This is a unique opportunity for a commercially astute lawyer to play a pivotal role in delivering strategic legal support across a major infrastructure portfolio, while enjoying the flexibility to balance work with other commitments.
This role would suit a self-sufficient and pragmatic lawyer with strong construction experience who thrives in a collaborative, solutions-focused environment. The team is collegiate, well-respected within the business, and works closely with senior stakeholders across engineering, commercial, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise on a wide range of transactional construction matters, including major works contracts, consultancy appointments, and supply chain arrangements
* Draft, review, and negotiate standard and bespoke construction and engineering agreements (NEC, JCT, FIDIC)
* Support procurement activity and contract strategy across the group’s infrastructure projects
* Provide legal input into commercial and corporate transactions involving construction elements
* Manage legal risk in relation to project delivery, including reviewing and updating standard terms and internal policies
* Act as a business partner to commercial and project delivery teams, embedding good contracting practices and resolving issues early
* Handle or oversee contentious matters where required, liaising with external counsel where appropriate
* Deliver internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions to support the team and wider business
* Contribute to continuous improvement across the legal function, including template development and process refinement
Key Requirements
* Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 4 years' PQE and strong construction law experience
* Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with a solid grasp of standard form contracts including NEC and JCT
* Comfortable advising on adjacent areas such as procurement, commercial contracts, and corporate support
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide clear, commercially grounded advice
* Previous in-house experience is welcome but not essential
* Exposure to dispute management or contentious matters within a construction environment would be advantageous
