The Role
The School Nurse and Pupil Welfare Lead is responsible for providing a caring and efficient first aid and medical service for all pupils and occasional assistance at our Sports Grounds. This role will involve ensuring we have up-to-date information and medication for any medical or health needs the pupils might have, including but not limited to asthma and allergies. The appointed candidate will liaise with parents to ensure care plans are accurate and timely correspondence is sent regarding health matters. Additionally, the Pupil Welfare Lead will be an integral part of promoting wellbeing for the pupils and staff, working alongside the Senior Leadership Team, ELSAs, School Counsellor, Heads of Year, and SENCOs to promote wellbeing support and initiatives across the school.
First Aid will also be offered to staff and visitors where appropriate, with regular training provided for staff and pupils.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assess and prioritise first aid and medical issues presented by pupils, staff, or visitors; treat in line with accepted good practice and according to protocol where necessary.
* Ensure that all documentation regarding any accident or incident on school premises is recorded accurately using the EVOLVE system.
* Ensure that any medication given to pupils is stored, administered, and documented according to the school’s policies.
* Monitor expiration dates of any medicine supplied to the school and request replacements when necessary.
* Implement adequate infection control measures and promote good hygiene practices.
* Monitor first aid supplies and emergency equipment, restocking when necessary.
* Prepare medical bags for school trips and ensure medication is taken by the responsible staff member.
* Provide first aid support for sporting events and school-run holiday clubs when requested.
* Assist with the delivery of PSHE education and provide training to staff on managing common medical issues.
* Arrange for pupils to receive audiology screening and influenza vaccinations annually.
* Inform the Estates and Facilities Manager and Senior Leadership Team of serious accidents or incidents.
* Maintain accurate medical information pertaining to pupils and update as necessary.
* Inform the Catering Manager of pupils with food allergies and dietary requirements.
* Liaise with the pastoral team regarding health or wellbeing concerns of pupils.
* Participate in termly Health and Safety meetings.
* Prepare general medical guidance notes for distribution.
Professional Responsibilities:
* Maintain a working knowledge of statutory guidance and legislation pertaining to safeguarding children in education.
* Provide support in handling any safeguarding issues that may arise.
* Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development.
* Contribute to the development and review of policies relevant to the health and welfare of pupils.
* Maintain confidentiality of information at all times.
* Attend staff INSET days as required.
* Review policies and procedures regarding medical matters used across the school.
* Audit data held on pupils and staff and ensure timely updates.
* Ensure appropriate information is shared with relevant staff.
* Recruit a network of first aiders to support fixtures.
* Set out First Aid procedures as guidelines for staff.
* Review training of staff in First Aid and specific medical needs.
* Work with the H&S consultant regarding incident reporting.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Provide emergency first aid to pupils and staff and complete appropriate documentation.
* Provide care to sick pupils and contact parents if necessary.
* Ensure appropriate care is accessible to pupils and supervise relevant documentation.
* Undertake regular first aid training.
* Keep accurate pupils’ health records and communicate with relevant staff.
* Order first aid supplies and maintain defibrillators.
* Organise immunisation programmes and liaise with the Prep School.
* Record first aid qualifications and book requalification courses.
* Arrange first aid and medical information INSETs.
* Book professional first aid cover for events as necessary.
* Ensure compliance documentation regarding First Aid and safeguarding is up to date.
General Responsibilities:
