An exciting opportunity has arisen at Chapel Allerton Hospital for an enthusiastic and experienced Radiographer to join our specialist MSK Radiology team on a 6-month secondment.
Chapel Allerton Hospital is a nationally acclaimed tertiary centre for musculoskeletal research. We provide specialist services in Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Dermatology and Neuro Rehabilitation to the people of Leeds and beyond.
The Radiology department supports out-patient, inpatient, and theatre services, in addition to the adult GP X-ray walk-in service.
We host 3 newly installed Siemens Ysio X-pree X-ray Rooms; A pioneering Siemens Multitom Rax combined X-ray/ Fluoro/ Cone beam CT system; and a Siemens Sola 1.5T MRI scanner.
The role would suit Radiographers who are keen to learn and happy working in a busy environment with considerable responsibility placed upon individuals to make imaging decisions in often complex cases. We would welcome applicants with no MRI experience, as full training will be provided. The successful candidate will be expected to cover shifts in all specialty areas including MRI.
This post is 0.5wte, Fixed term 6 months.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will operate as a senior member of the Radiography team, using initiative, knowledge and leadership skills to provide an efficient and high-quality imaging service.
There is an expectation to participate in the newly developed Radiology Band 6 Mentoring Scheme.
Principal responsibilities will include:
1. Providing support and training for junior staff
2. Supporting the Team manager by carrying out additional operational and managerial duties
3. Demonstrating appropriate leadership behaviours, expected at Band 6 level
4. Working autonomously in all aspects of musculoskeletal MRI and general X-ray (training will be provided)
5. Participating in the out-of-hours on-call rota
6. Showing initiative in providing solutions to service delivery problems, in unforeseen circumstances, using available resources effectively to promote smooth delivery of service/patient care
7. Communicating negotiated changes to staff rosters to appropriate staff
8. Organising personal and departmental workload in line with clinical priorities
9. Adapting and quickly responding to changes in service, patient or departmental need
10. Assisting in the vetting of MRI referrals and the completion of examination request safety checks
11. Communicating effectively and working collaboratively with medical, nursing and other professional colleagues to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service

Job responsibilities
Undertake all the professional and technical requirements of the post as a State Registered qualified radiographer with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), while working as an autonomous practitioner within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Radiology Directorate.
To perform a wide variety of specialised MRI and radiographic procedures and examinations within and outside the Radiology department, for example onwards and specialised operating theatres. Patients presenting for examination have diverse backgrounds and may have complex physical and/or psychological conditions.
To manage personal workloads, authorising and prioritising MRI and radiological examinations as appropriate for clinical need.
To work as a clinical specialist as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing high standards of patient care, whilst following policies and procedures as specified by the Radiology Management Team.
The post holder also undertakes the supervision and specialist clinical training of radiographers, assistant practitioners, undergraduate students and other staff as appropriate.
Person Specification
Experience
* Substantial post graduate experience, working as a radiographer (or willing to work towards a training programme under annex 21)
* Working knowledge of Departmental and Trust policies and procedures i.e. Imaging protocols, Infection Control, IR(ME)R2017, COSHH
* Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of a wide range of general and specialised radiography e.g. through academic study at post graduate study or equivalent. (or willing to work towards annex 21)
Qualifications
* BSc (or equivalent) in Diagnostic Radiography and State Registration with the HCPC
* Attendance at further courses such as IV cannulation, Student Assessment, plain film commenting, MRI study
* Commitment to undergo academic study i.e. post graduate study or equivalent
* Commitment to enrol in the Radiology CSU Band 6 Mentoring Programme
