Responsible for maintaining and improving the IT infrastructure, including all servers, storage, networking, and cloud technologies, including ground station communications. SSTL has an ambitious strategy to innovate and improve the effectiveness of the entire business and the services we provide to our customers.
Key Purpose of Job
Manage the existing infrastructure, with the vision to make changes to improve efficiency and enhance the services offered. Keep up to date with new technologies and make appropriate recommendations.
Key Tasks
1. Ensure that all IT systems, services, and infrastructure meet the needs of the business and operate reliably and securely.
2. Line manage the IT Infrastructure team throughout the employee life cycle including recruitment, performance, development & mentoring, PDR’s, wellbeing.
3. Ensure the team has the skills required to deliver current & future projects in line with the business plan and there is a viable plan in place to retain & develop team members with a particular view to succession planning and single point failures.
4. Set and manage the IT infrastructure budget.
5. Review systems architecture and security, reviewing new technologies and recommending improvements.
6. Work with all areas of the business to ensure solutions for engineering teams are effective, secure, and fit for purpose. This includes ground stations, ground segments around the globe, and build and development networks.
7. Support infrastructure services through design and project briefs.
8. Implement new infrastructure services through project schedules and change management.
9. Work with hybrid environments and understand which on-premise services would benefit from moving to the cloud.
10. Adhere to ISO 9001 standards for process and ISO 27001 standards for security.
11. Ensure routine maintenance of infrastructure services such as firmware updates, system upgrades, and virtual infrastructure management is completed.
12. Ensure all known vulnerabilities are mitigated effectively.
13. Provide 3rd line support services within the Service Desk, resolving escalated incidents in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with Service Desk SLA’s.
14. Use a continuous improvement approach to the performance of the IT Infrastructure including new technologies where appropriate, with a view to efficiency gains.
15. Add automation where possible to improve reliability and accuracy of routine operations such as applying updates and building services.
16. Work with the wider IT team including the security and service teams to ensure infrastructure services are fully integrated in the business.
17. Develop a strategy for implementing technology solutions that align with company goals.
18. Other tasks as required by the IT manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Qualifications
* Degree in Computing/Information Security or equivalent
* ITIL, CISA, CISSP an advantage but not necessary
* Must be able to attain and hold National Security Vetting to a minimum SC level.
Experience
* Proven experience within an infrastructure management role.
* Experience with system monitoring tools and techniques.
* Experience of managing hybrid environments.
* Must be capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
* Strong leadership and people skills, ability to support, develop, and mentor team.
Knowledge & Skills
Be able to communicate clearly and effectively, and influence and persuade.
* Well organised with a good understanding of project/time management skills.
* Able to resolve conflicting priorities and demands within a pressurised environment.
* Ability to plan and manage team workload.
* Attention to detail and pro-active approach to security.
* Knowledge of incident management and problem-solving methodologies.
