Job Title: Engineer – Materials Technology (Corrosion & Coatings)

Salary: From £35,802+ depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
* Provide support to the Corrosion & Coatings Lead with the development of the SSN AUKUS protective coatings specification. You will also be involved with the broader corrosion mitigation strategies and planning for future durability.
* Support the review of supplier technical queries, contract deliverables and special processes related to corrosion prevention and protective coatings across multiple platforms.
* Support corrosion and coating related research and laboratory-based activities by performing physical testing and delivering proposals for new projects.
* Provide technical input into relevant inspections, failure analysis and repair options to provide practical solutions.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
* Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy, materials science, chemistry or a STEM degree with relevant experience. Alternative experience will also be considered.
* Possess a broad understanding of materials principles and processes gained through lab, research or site experience.
* Knowledge of corrosion prevention and polymer/coating technology.
* Understanding of inspection and testing processes and implications.
Desirable
* Awareness of preparing materials, paints and coating specifications for new designs.
* Experience or working knowledge of relevant processes for surface preparation, material mixing (paints, adhesives), paint spraying and/or thermal metal spraying. Understanding of inspection and testing processes gained through industrial experience.
* Membership of relevant professional institutions and working towards chartered status, and qualification to a minimum of a Level 1 Coating Inspector (or equivalent).

The Corrosion & Coatings team:
As an Engineer on this team, you will be working with a team of specialist engineers responsible for all aspects of corrosion management across multiple submarine programmes. You will work across all aspects of submarines, suppliers, manufacturing, design, and build. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
