The Specialist Transport Service is responsible for delivering transport to the residents of Warrington. This is a mixed service provision which is partly provided by the council’s in-house fleet and partly contracted out to external public transport/taxi and private hire operators. In respect of public transport, the council works with local bus operators to provide a range of services beyond those that are available commercially.
The Specialist Transport Service is continuously thinking innovatively about how we offer our services, as well as identifying opportunities to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
As an integrated specialist transport service, we support over 6.5 million passenger journeys a year and have been successful in securing Bus Service Improvement Plan funding from Government which is helping us to invest in our network by introducing more bus priority measures, real-time passenger information, capping bus fares and improving the range and frequency of bus services.
Our in-house fleet and private hire operations provide 800 passenger journeys a day across approximately 200 vehicles, ensuring service users access day centres or education establishments.
