The Health Care Assistant (HCA) will provide essential services to the practice population while actively supporting the Practice Nursing team with enthusiasm. The role requires working within one's limitations and capabilities, with a focus on continuous development to ensure the delivery of the best, up-to-date care for patients. Key responsibilities include conducting health assessments for newly registered patients, such as testing urine, checking blood pressure, removing sutures, measuring heights and weights, and taking a simple medical history. It is essential to promptly report any changes in a patient's condition or circumstances to a member of the Nursing or Medical Team and to keep a documented record. Additionally, maintaining cleanliness and order in clinical rooms, ensuring that necessary equipment is prepared for use by Nursing and Medical staff, and assisting in clinic sessions as directed are required. This includes cleaning and sterilising all equipment following each
clinic session.
The essential qualifications and experience required include administering immunisations and injections, including childhood vaccinations, conducting long-term condition reviews for asthma, COPD, diabetes, and hypertension, and providing travel vaccinations. Additionally, experience with smoking cessation, wound and dressing care, ECGs and cardiac monitor management is necessary. The role also involves educating patients on medications and lifestyle management post-procedures, monitoring blood pressure, performing NHS Health Checks, and conducting phlebotomy.
