Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Family History Coordinator to join the All Wales Medical Genomics Services (AWMGS), working on a permanent basis, full-time currently based at Canolfan Iechyd Genomig Cymru (CIGC) / Wales Genomic Health Centre, Cardiff.
The pay progression steps begin at £26,928 and top at £29,551. Typically, those appointed from external employers join the NHS at the bottom of the scale. The expectation is that all staff will meet the required standards and will, therefore, be able to progress on their pay step date.
The pay progression framework is underpinned by the Values Based Appraisal process and is intended to ensure that all staff within each pay band have the appropriate knowledge and skills they need to carry out their roles and so make the greatest contribution to patient care.
We are looking for individuals who share our core values.
Main duties of the job
The Family History Coordinator will be the central point of contact for the service, providing information and processing referrals for Genetic Counsellors, Specialist Nurses and doctors. The Family History Coordinator will also need to update and manage the database with patient information and results and will be responsible for drawing family history pedigrees.
The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides an equitable, comprehensive service to the people of Wales, identifying, referring and managing patients with a family history of cancer and other genetic conditions. The post holder will be responsible for processing patient referrals to AWMGS by drawing family history pedigrees (to an agreed protocol) and confirming cancer diagnoses by locating appropriate patient records.
The successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate excellent communication and IT skills, as well as being committed to providing a quality service to patients; working flexibly and conscientiously to achieve service objectives.
The Directorate encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the KSF process. Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Medical Genetics.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
