Job summary
The Insights and Intelligence Team is an analytical service supporting NHS England by providing information, analysis and analytical support. We have an aim of 'do once and automate' wherever possible and therefore produce South West Regional products for use by the centre and locally. This approach reduces the analytical overhead enabling us to support local analysis where required and ensures consistency of reporting across the South West region.
This role is a key part of the Analytical Products Team. With support from other team members, this role will support delivering data, automation, and visualisation topics to support the region and ICSs with their analytical needs, as well as supporting others within the Analytical Products team. This role will often work as part of multi-disciplinary 'squads', made up of colleagues, both internal and external to the Insights and Intelligence team, to deliver on projects that require a range of skills and knowledge. In consideration of the national competency framework this role will most closely align to the Data analyst job family at Associate practitioner level. The specialisms expected to strongly feature within the Analytical Products team are data visualisation, Statistical process control (SPC), Technological specialisms, Data automation and Information governance.
Main duties of the job
This role is based in the Analytical Products work area. This team will provide the foundation of robust analysis allowing reliable insightful analysis by delivering data, automation, and visualisation expertise to the region and ICSs. It will support the delivery of improved data collection, quality & compliance, infrastructure and access across the SW through liaison with and support to ICB and provider teams. It will support the local implementation of national policy & standards across ICSs, including supporting the roll out and delivery of national data programmes.
Core functions of this team include:
1. Manage all regular reporting
2. Develop ad hoc reporting solutions
3. Software and dashboard design expertise - automate/productionize reporting processes
4. display the data story in the most easily consumable format
5. Data Liaison between National team and Systems, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) etc
6. Manage and assess datasets & data platforms ( UDAL, support FDP roll-out)
7. Data quality - Compensate for outliers and missing data, Data quality reporting
8. Work with ICBs to improve data quality
9. Data Collections - Support ICBs & Providers with national data collections & Manage any local data collections
10. Translate National requirements to region and system level & Support ICSs with IG and data management needs
11. Co-ordinate Data Access
12. Horizon scanning

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Insights and Intelligence Team in the South West Region.
You will expected to carry out tasks such as:
18. Cleanse and manage data (including processing)
19. Quality assure data and analytical outputs following best practice guidelines
20. Integrate data feeds from disparate sources
21. Respond to incoming requests for information in a timely and efficient manner
22. Develop business intelligence reports
23. Plan, design, manage, execute and report tests, using appropriate tools and techniques

27. level 2 qualification in English/Maths (GCSE or equivalent) OR successful resit of functional skills exam
Knowledge and Experience

28. previous experience of working in a data analytics role OR be able to demonstrate ability to utilise data at a basic level
29. Good understanding of analytical tools and is highly numerate
30. Basic statistical knowledge
31. Experience of generating reports from the analysis of raw data
32. High degree of computer literacy (Microsoft Excel is essential)
