An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse team on Ward 7B on a fixed term/secondment basis.
Ward 7B is a 24 bedded Respiratory ward, with a pleural procedures room present on the ward, for conducting all our pleural work.
The ward cares for patients in the acute stage of their admission through to discharge and manages conditions such as COPD exacerbations, lung cancers, type 2 respiratory failure and Non-Invasive Ventilation, chest drains, tracheostomies, chest infections, severe sepsis as well as general medical care.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant must be enthusiastic and motivated to work in a busy medical environment using their initiative. They should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to organise and prioritise workload, be a great team player and exhibit strong leadership skills.
Support, guidance and training will be given by the Ward Sister and the Band 6 team to develop the skills required for this role.
Person specification
Previous Experience
* To have a wide knowledge base in nursing and have a minimum of two years’ experience as a band.
* Committed to ongoing personal development.
* Evidence of change management and experience in clinical audit.
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all members of staff.
* Able to demonstrate good leadership skills.
* Evidence of assessing and supervising junior colleagues.
* Clinically competent with extended skills, such as cannulation, venepuncture, ECG, male catheterization, blood gas interpretation, management of chest drains, tracheostomy and a willingness to undertake all roles.
* Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework.
Qualification
* Registered nurse with current NMC.
* Degree or equivalent.
* Working towards specialist qualification in respiratory care nursing.
* NIV Competence.
* Advanced Life Support (ALS).
Specific Requirements
* Demonstrate awareness of current changes in the NHS.
* Ability to manage and motivate staff.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
* Flexible in working long days, long nights and weekends throughout the 7-day week.
* Able to demonstrate professional and calm manner when dealing with the demands of the service.
