An exciting opportunity has arisen on the Burns Centre at Whiston Hospital. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for excellence within the delivery of patient care. Professional development is supported within a friendly, dynamic team structure.
The Mersey Regional Burn Centre provides care to patients who have sustained burns. The unit has a large catchment area which includes as far away as North Wales and the Isle of Man, serving a population of 4 million people.
The Centre comprises of 12 beds which are:
* 4 high dependency cubicles
* 4 single cubicles
* 4 bedded area

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
KEY DUTIES
* To develop the skills to care for acutely unwell patients.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Under supervision, perform comprehensive assessments of ill patients, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs and varying levels of complexity.
* Ensure patient records are maintained and that documentation reflects care provided.
* Involve patients/carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of services within the Unit area.
* Promote and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, or carers.
* Assist in urgent and emergency situations within a level of experience as directed by senior staff.
* Develop skills to undertake specialist activities within practitioner’s Scope of Professional Practice.
* Communicate sensitive/unpleasant/complex information to patients/relatives or others in a variety of settings.
* Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
* Report untoward incidents/accidents in accordance with Trust policy, ensuring IR1 forms filled in as indicated.
* Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines for self and others.
* Participate in activities that lead to service improvement, through benchmarking, audit, or research.
* Encourage the use of new nursing techniques that are based on current evidence-based research.
* Promote people’s diversity, equality, and rights.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensure patient records are kept up to date and accurate and recording is done in line with Trust policies and procedures.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
* Promote an effective learning environment.
* Clinically support staff in achieving their work-based competencies.
* Act as a mentor/preceptor to junior Nursing staff.
* Continue to develop own knowledge through training, education, and professional updates.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Participate in building a high profile for your clinical area within the Trust.
* Ensure effective and efficient use of both physical and financial resources.
* Promote health, safety, and security of self and others and implement best practice in the Unit area.
Person specification
Qualifications
* RGN Level 1, with current NMC Registration
* Burns qualification, or willingness to undertake
* Evidence of ongoing professional development with a relevant diploma
* Teaching and assessing qualification/training, or equivalent
* Willingness to study to degree level
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role
* Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues
* Knowledge of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults procedures
* Awareness of how audit may influence quality of patient care
* Previous NHS experience
* Significant post-registration experience within an acute hospital setting
Skills
* Evidence of quality improvement in patient care
* Effective organizational skills
* Ability to set and establish priorities
