Practice Nurse with specialist interest in Diabetes
May Lane Surgery is a busy GP Practice based in DursleyGloucestershire, dedicated to delivering excellent healthcare to our patients.
We are looking for enthusiastic committed nurse with aspecialist interest in diabetes to join us in providing high quality care toour patients. Ideally the candidate will be an experienced Practice Nurse witha qualification or previous experience working in diabetes care.
The role is for 2-3 days per week, though the exact workingpattern and hours would be negotiable.
Nurse Clinics run from 8.30am to 5.45pm.
Salary £19.10-21.10 per hour depending on experience.
Main duties of the job
The role will include general practice nursing, alongside providingan exceptional diabetic care service to the patients of the practice.
Utilising your skills in managing patients within a primarycare setting and dealing with physical health concerns, mental health issuesand minor illnesses, you'll be an integral member of the medical team,conducting clinics independently, completing administrative tasks (referrals,pathology results) and supporting our doctors and reception processes.
Specific work includes but is not limited to:
Provision of high-quality care to patients with diabetes
Management of long-term conditions
Disease & drug monitoring
Wound care
Childhood immunisations
Cervical Screening
Requesting pathology tests as necessary

Job responsibilities
To provide a high-quality service to our patients withdiabetes. You will be responsible for the assessment, delivery of care andevaluation of programmes of patient care within nurse led clinics for diabetesrelated conditions.
Management of long-term conditions, including; identifyingsignificant abnormalities; diagnosis, monitoring and development of individualmanagement plans, agreeing these as appropriate with the patient and otherhealth professionals.
Wound Management: perform wound care using aseptictechnique. Assist with minor surgery. Provide the diagnosis, management planand treatment of leg ulcers using Doppler assessment and compression bandaging.
Screening: Opportunistic venepuncture, screening i.e. BP,height, weight, urine.
Health Promotion: smoking cessation clinics, healthy eatingadvice, advice on appropriate exercise, safe limits for alcohol consumption,provision of health promotion literature.
Vaccinations and Immunisations: administer injections undera Patient Group Direction; ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal ofvaccines and drugs. Provide an adult and childhood immunisation service.
Travel Health Advice: give vaccines and malarial advice.Provide contact addresses for further information.
Infection control: support patients and colleagues inadopting sound infection control measures.
Emergency Management: is competent in anaphylaxis andresuscitation techniques.
Family planning: support patients attending for emergencycontraceptive and refer appropriately, perform health checks for patients usinghormonal contraception, advise patients on reducing the risk of sexuallytransmitted diseases and refer patents appropriately.

* Experience of SystmOne/TPP and Ardens
Qualifications
* NMC registered
* Recognised qualification/training of Diabetes
* Vaccination and Immunisation trained
* Understanding of QOF
