SEN Support Solicitors are a family-friendly small practice. We act on behalf of parents and young persons providing legal advice and support in SEND tribunal appeals, disability discrimination claims, judicial review claims and other related matters.
Due to our exceptional growth, we are looking to expand our legal team and expertise with an experienced Education Solicitor.
We also welcome applications from qualified Solicitors looking for a new challenge in this niche area of law.
The Role
1. To manage a full caseload of Education Law matters through to completion.
2. To undertake SEND tribunal appeals, disability discrimination claims, judicial review claims and other related matters.
3. To provide technical expertise and supervise the team of paralegals, caseworkers and trainee solicitors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide a timely and professional service to clients.
2. Give legal advice and take client instructions and act on them appropriately.
3. Maintain accurate records on the case management system and paper file.
4. Ensure all relevant deadlines are adhered to.
5. Work to key performance indicators.
6. Draft documents, letters, statements and legal documents as required.
7. Correspond with clients and opposing solicitors/Responsible Bodies.
8. Attend Working Documents meetings, Annual Review meetings, Mediation meetings, Child in Need meetings, Child Protection meetings, and round table meetings as appropriate to education matters.
9. Attend TCMH, JADR, Tribunal Hearings as required.
10. Instruct Barristers or specialist advocates to attend Hearings.
11. Delegate work to trainee solicitors, caseworkers and paralegals as appropriate, providing clear instructions and support where required.
12. Check all documentation prior to signing and issue.
13. Maintain accurate time costing procedures.
14. Ensure compliance with file management.
The Person
1. Qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister.
2. Experience of dealing with Education Law matters and SEN tribunals would be highly advantageous.
3. Diligent, methodical and able to use own initiative.
4. Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan work, prioritise tasks and respond to interruptions to planned workload.
5. Excellent team working skills.
6. Strong client care skills with a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients’ needs.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to build strong links with local authorities, professionals, Tribunals Judges, Clerks and Staff and colleagues.
8. Be approachable and have a considerate nature.
9. A flexible approach to work and openness to new ideas.
10. Ability to deal with urgent deadlines and be a proactive case handler to provide a timely professional service to clients.
11. Able to stay calm under pressure.
12. The ability to lead and delegate responsibility.
13. Proven experience of handling your own cases.
14. A professional approach to work, integrity, and a respect for confidentiality.
15. Excellent IT Skills, familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills.
