Senior Therapy Assistant - Stroke and Neuro team (Acute) 37.5 Hours per week
The Dorset County Hospital Therapy Team is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable team player to join the Stroke therapy team as a Senior Therapy Assistant.
The successful candidate will work on our Stroke unit at Dorset County Hospital and see outlying patients on other medical wards with support from qualified therapists.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will assist in treating a wide variety of clinical conditions and work alongside Occupational Therapy, Speech therapy and Physiotherapy, delivering rehabilitation and assisting in the safe and timely discharge of patients.
We provide supervision within the team and have training provided for therapy assistants. You are encouraged to develop through appraisals and CPD.
Experience in rehabilitation and stroke care is essential, ideally as a therapy assistant. Basic IT and administrative skills are required. Car drivers only as part of the role will be supporting home visits.
Job responsibilities
1. Assisting qualified staff in assessing and treating patients with neurological illness or injury (predominantly stroke)
2. To carry out treatments following guidance from qualified staff as part of rehabilitation programme. Treatments will span Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. Treatments will include providing personal care
3. To have good observation skills and be able to accurately document and report findings in sessions back to qualified staff, with suggestions of further plans or analysis
4. To build a remit of skills within band 3 competencies to adjust and progress sessions depending on patient presentation
5. To assist qualified staff on home visits as required
6. To comply with governance, health and safety, manual handling and professional standards/conduct
7. To keep up to date statistics and documentation
8. To work as a team member, supporting and encouraging others in accordance with the department vision and strategic plan
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* BTEC/HND/NVQ or equivalent
* Relevant healthcare course
Experience
* Experience in health or social care
* Experience and ability to work in MDT
* Previous experience in therapy rehab
* NHS experience
