Who You Are As a Senior Auditor, you are a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in internal auditing, preferably within a local authority setting. You are either studying for or have achieved relevant qualifications such as Certified Internal Auditor, a qualification from a professional accountancy body, or full membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians. You possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and are proficient in using MS Office. You have a clear understanding of fraud and control issues and are capable of conducting thorough audits with minimal supervision. You are adaptable and possess exceptional communication skills to engage with various stakeholders across the Council. What the Job Involves In this part-time role, working two days per week, you will undertake project-based internal audit assignments, proactive audits, and reviews across all services. You will be responsible for identifying weaknesses in internal control systems and making recommendations to management to mitigate risks. Acting as an ambassador for the Internal Audit team, you'll ensure audits are completed to relevant standards, with findings backed by adequate evidence. You will work with a team including the Head of Assurance and other auditors to deliver high-quality audits on time and within budget, predominantly focused on school audits. Your role will involve engagement with senior management, discussing findings, and agreeing upon action plans. While primarily working independently, you may lead specific audit projects and mentor trainee staff. The role requires you to be immediately available, with flexibility for remote working, and is outside of IR35.
