Calderdale Council has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic person to take up the role of Care Charging Caseworker within our Financial Assessment and Charging Team. The successful candidate will work as part of a busy, supportive team to undertake accurate means tested financial assessments, identify potential entitlement to welfare benefits and provide information on how these can be claimed.
What will you be doing?
* Working with customers or their appointed representatives to obtain and analyse financial information to calculate how much they need to pay towards the cost of care and support.
* Inputting financial information using the Council’s computerised systems to process community and residential care charges.
* Identifying welfare benefits that may be available to claim and take follow up action.
* Supporting customers, their representatives and social care practitioners to resolve care charge queries.
* Dealing with and making decisions on complex cases, such as backdated charges, deprivation of assets, disability related expenditure, and deferred payments. This may include reporting potential safeguarding concerns in respect of financial abuse.
What knowledge, skills, and experience do you need?
* Demonstrate a knowledge of the Care and Support (Charging and Assessment of Resources) Regulations, the Care and Support (Deferred Payment) Regulations and the care and support statutory guidance.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to use the telephone, arrange meetings for your workload, communicate via emails and letters.
* Proven ability to use computerised systems to enter information and accurately input data.
* Able to interpret and apply rules, some of which may be complex, to carry out a financial assessment.
* Able to work with minimal supervision, organising and prioritising your workload.
