The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust has an enthusiastic and dynamic Outpatient team looking to recruit a full time Band 6 Physiotherapist (37.5 hours). We are able to offer a varied role with an emphasis on professional development, enabling the successful candidate to progress their musculoskeletal skills to a high level and offer options to gain experience in all areas of MSK practice and management to give the best long term career options.
Referrals are received from local GP practices, Orthopaedics, Pain Clinic, Rheumatology, Oncology and Maxillo-Facial Consultants. This includes trauma and elective post-operative patients from orthopaedic wards, A&E and fracture clinic. We provide a virtual fracture clinic service 6 afternoons a week, running alongside the Orthopaedic clinics seeing A+E referrals and post-op / fracture clinic patients. We offer all our patients the option for face to face, video or telephone appointments.
The Physiotherapy Department runs a Musculoskeletal APP-led triage service with a number of highly skilled and experienced APPs, providing clinical support and formal and informal training. As a result of this we have superb working relationships with our Consultants and Multi-disciplinary Teams.
Main duties of the job
The Band 6s within the team rotate every 8 months through Spinal, Shoulder, Wrist & Hand, Pain, Rheumatology, Hip, Knee and Foot & Ankle rotations. There are further options to gain experience within Pelvic Health and Occupational Health should you wish. Each rotation is supported by weekly training lead by the relevant Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) and line managed by an experienced Team Leader.
Further training is available with regular IST either in the form of weekly one hour sessions or educational half days. We also run an optional Friday learning lunch where we review and discuss recent relevant research, podcasts and blogs. On each rotation our Band 6s can shadow MSK or Orthopaedic Consultant clinics and are able to do watched assessments.
As a Band 6 Physiotherapist you will have the opportunity to supervise Junior Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants, and Physiotherapy Students on placement. As part of this you will be involved in the Junior / Student teaching programme.
The Physiotherapy Outpatient Department offers a 6 day service. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of the Outpatient Saturday rota, which is approximately one Saturday every 6 weeks, with a day off in-lieu. In order to suit the needs of the local population we offer early morning and early evening appointments. As a result of this there is the opportunity to work a 4 day week on full time hours if requested.
