Job Summary
These are supply positions from January 2024. The salary will be pro-rated for full time SLA hours (35 hours) although the weekly hours for supply SLAs is 27.5 hours and during term-time.
The supply post will be to cover absences across East Dunbartonshire Schools.
Please note that all positions are peripatetic so it is likely that you will be moving around schools over weeks or months at a time.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to support children and young people within East Dunbartonshire schools. As a support for learning assistant, you will provide support to children and young people with additional support needs. You may be asked to work within any of our schools in East Dunbartonshire and work with a range of pupils from primary or secondary. You will be asked for your preference.
As a support for learning assistant Grade 4 you may be asked to:
* Support pupils individually or in small groups directed by the class teacher
* Support pupils personal care needs
* Provide supervision for pupils e.g. in the playground, corridors, dining area, during PE or organised school trips
* Contribute to support programmes with the school setting, recommended by other professional services.
* Ensure a safe and secure environment
You will have a pleasant, tolerant manner and a proven capacity to establish positive relationships with children and young people. Experience of working with children and young people with additional support needs, a commitment to the well-being of children and an interest in their development is essential.
A relevant qualification in childcare is desirable.

PVG / Disclosure Scotland
The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria
Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.
Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.
In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.
Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.
The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
