Autism Support Teaching Assistant
Secondary School Provisions Unit
Barnet
We are currently looking for an Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join an Autism Support Provisions Unit within a fantastic secondary school in Barnet.
The Role
In this role, you will support pupils with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition on a 1-to-1 and group basis. You will support pupils across various classes and learning activities. Building relationships and establishing routines with students is essential. A good basic understanding of autism is required, along with the ability to ensure a suitable learning environment, communicate clearly, and integrate pupils' interests. You will work closely with teachers and parents/carers and be involved in assessments and reporting in line with children’s Education, Health, and Care plans (EHCP).
The school ideally seeks a teaching assistant with experience supporting students with autism but is open to applications from other teaching assistants and graduates eager to gain experience in SEN.
The School
The Special Resource Provision is for pupils diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) as a primary need in their EHCP. Located within a larger Barnet secondary school, it offers up to 7 pupils a place per year group. Students who can access the main school will follow the National Curriculum, with the aim of taking up to 5 GCSEs at the end of Year 11. Passing grades of 4 or above typically allow access to 6th form courses within the main school.
If you have experience working with children or young adults with special educational needs and are interested in making a positive impact, please apply with an up-to-date CV.
