We are looking for either a Band 5 Occupational Therapist wishing to take their next steps on the career ladder or an existing Band 6 looking for a new challenge to join our forward-thinking Occupational Therapy Team, who are passionate about the evolving role of an OT in an acute hospital setting.
You will work as an integral part of an existing integrated multi-disciplinary team, using a fusion-skilled hybrid approach, focusing on high quality care, promoting comprehensive assessments, and supporting hospital teams in appropriate admission avoidances over a seven-day service in our short stay areas. In doing so, you will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients who will present with many complex needs throughout their acute hospital stay.
A willingness to work flexibly and to undertake tasks traditionally allocated to specific disciplines are all requirements of the role. As a Band 6 therapist, you will be supporting and developing rotational Band 5 therapists and Assistant Practitioners. The role also involves supervising therapy support staff and educating therapy students on placement. There will be opportunities for innovation and an expectation that you will be actively involved in relevant quality improvement projects. Our friendly Service offers support through regular supervision, appraisal, training and development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
The Occupational Therapist will work within the multidisciplinary Team providing assessment and intervention to patients within the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit and Short Stay wards. The Occupational Therapist will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to identify appropriate patients for both the Frailty and Acute specialisms, using identified screening tools.
The Occupational Therapist will use specialist skills to conduct assessments and carry out interventions which contribute to the Acute/Emergency pathways and to the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment process for patients presenting with Frailty Syndromes.
The Occupational Therapist will enable patients to develop, recover, maintain independence and satisfaction in the meaningful activities of daily living or occupations that are important to them.
The Occupational Therapist will work autonomously and be responsible for their own caseload, liaising with and receiving supervision from the Team Leader Occupational Therapist (or from the wider Occupational Therapy department).
The Occupational Therapist will ensure that the service meets the demands of providing a 7 day service from 8 am until 7 pm, including bank holidays on a roster basis.
