Job summary The Pharmacy Department provides a fully comprehensive pharmaceutical service across the Trust and to a number of external community units. We are a large and very busy department with over 180 members of staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and clerical staff. Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt and supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards and external units are provided with a clinical service with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared and supplied to meet the highest quality standards. The post is for full-time hours to be worked Monday to Friday, although part-time hours may be considered. There is also a requirement to work 1 in 10 weekends (09:00 - 17:00 Saturday and Sunday) with corresponding time off during the week and to participate in the bank holiday rota, currently minimum 1 per year (09:00 - 17:00). Interview: 14th May 2025 Main duties of the job As an Operations Manager, you will manage the day-to-day staffing and activity of the Dispensary and play an active part in developing and improving our services. The dispensary is currently undergoing a significant upgrade, with the installation of a new robot planned and a change to the layout of the dispensary to meet the increasing demand for dispensed products. There is also a transformation project underway within the department to ensure that all staff are working at the top of their license and ensuring that staff are working in novel ways to ensure that patient's medicines are optimized, and patients are suitably informed about their medicines when they leave the hospital. We would therefore expect the Dispensary manager to take an active part in re-designing services and ensuring that staff of an appropriate grade and training are utilized appropriately within the department. There will be significant change occurring over the next 2-3 years, so experience of supporting staff through changes to their working practices would be helpful. To meet the requirements of this post, you will be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have significant experience working in a dispensary environment. A management qualification or equivalent management experience is also a must. You will need to respond to changing demands on a daily basis and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
