Job overview
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the effective delivery of services and staff within the Maternity In-Patient areas, Bereavement & Intrapartum at the John Radcliffe Site.
Model and embed a positive workforce culture within Maternity that is consistent to the Trust values to enable a strong and empowered workforce at all levels that is equipped to deliver excellence in care standards.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Provide an accessible and visible presence to staff, patients and visitors.
2. Ensure the provision of high quality, responsive services with the needs of women and families at the centre of care delivery.
3. Manage the delegated budget by monitoring the use of resources (pay and non-pay), investigate areas of overspend and take prompt action to ensure that the highest standards are delivered within the resources available to the department.
4. Ensure maintenance of statistics and contribution to activity reports.
5. Develop systems to ensure all activity within the defined clinical areas is recorded and appropriately funded.
6. Contribute to the Midwifery Leadership Team On Call Rota, which provides 24 hour cover for the maternity service across all maternity areas within Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust site.
7. Participate in the Day-to-Day Operational Manager shifts (Bleep holding).
8. Work closely with the Midwifery Leadership Team to ensure excellent standards around the environment, infection control practices, high standards of cleanliness and compliance with national and local standards are met.
9. Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team across wider maternity services, the Maternity and Neonatal Voices partnership, Directorate and Division.
Person specification
Professional Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Education to a MSc level or equivalent experience with evidence of further professional development
* Up to date knowledge of Maternity services
* Varied experience in Managerial roles
* Management and/or Leadership qualification
Skills and Abilities
* Experience with writing reports
* Ability to confidently practice in patient care settings
* Evidence of managing staff and dealing with difficult situations in a nonconfrontational manner
* Demonstrable knowledge and awareness of contemporary issues underpinning the maternity service
* Ability to lead and manage a multiprofessional team
* Management experience in a senior role
* Involved in audit and research activities
* Ability to plan and implement service changes
* Safe staffing and health roster software
* Experience of ward or department budget management and financial issues
