The Opportunity:
The Linguistics and English Language Department in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences is seeking a PDRA on a full time, fixed term basis for 30 months. This post is expected to commence in June 2025.
We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in experimental pragmatics, causal cognition, or a closely related area to be a part of team working on the AHRC/DFG-funded project “Communicating Causality”. Principal Investigators: Dr. Dan Lassiter (Edinburgh); Prof. Michael Franke (Tübingen).
The project seeks to use tools of experimental and computational pragmatics to illuminate linguistic, psychological, and philosophical issues around causal thought and talk.
The role shall be based within the Dugald Stewart Building. Opportunities for discussion on informal hybrid workplace arrangements can be discussed at the time of offer, however please note that some on campus working is required.
Your skills and attributes for success:
PhD in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline (completed, or submitted and awaiting examination can be considered).
Up-to-date knowledge of one or more areas of relevant research.
A track record of high-profile research outputs such as journal publications or presentations at international conferences.
Ability to prioritise and to work both independently and within a team with minimum supervision, and to solve problems as they arise.
