Job Description Purpose of the role To ensure that the activities in the Private Bank & Wealth Management division are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, and to help the bank manage legal and reputational risks associated with these activities. Accountabilities Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies to manage risk related to non-adherence of laws, rules and regulations. Legal advice and support to the bank's Private Bank & Wealth Management division on matters arising from the investment, credit and banking products/services provided by the Private Bank & Wealth Management division. Subject matter support in the Legal department’s representation of the bank in legal proceedings related to Private Bank & Wealth Management activities, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations. Creation and review of legal documents for the Private Bank & Wealth Management division to ensure the bank’s adherence with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Maintaining and updating form legal documentation for the investment Private Bank & Wealth Management division. Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank's Private Bank & Wealth Management activities. Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to the Private Bank & Wealth Management division. Pro-active identification, communication, and provision of legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keeping up to date with regards to changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area. Ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, the relevant policies, standards and controls. Join us as a Private Bank Investments Lawyer – Wealth & Private Banking at Barclays where you will play a key role in providing legal and regulatory coverage with respect to the Private Bank & Wealth Management’s (PBWM) Investments business in the UK, Jersey and Ireland. The Investments business is responsible for services such as wealth planning, discretionary portfolio management, investment advice, dealing and custody. Within these services a range of products are available. These include: equities, fixed income, FX, OTC derivatives, structured products, exchange traded products, funds, offshore bonds, venture capital trusts (VCTs), enterprise investment schemes (EIS) and life wrappers. The PBWM business is an expanding business that provides banking, credit and investment services to retail and institutional resident across multiple jurisdictions. Key skills required for this role include: Experienced investments focused lawyer Strong knowledge and experience from across the investment product and service universe. Experience of distribution of services and products on a cross-border basis, not just in the UK Private banking experience. Other highly valued skills include: Experience with insurance-based investment products, wealth planning (including ISAs) and/or digital assets is desirable. This role can be based in either Manchester or Glasgow.
