Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

A great opportunity to join a well-established, independently owned M&E Consultancy with a proven reputation. Due to expansion plans, my client has recently opened a new, beautifully designed office in Birmingham, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and designed with both comfort and productivity in mind.
As the successful candidate, you will be reporting to the Director, working on a variety of projects including commercial, education, sport and leisure, hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, mixed use, and residential.
Job Summary
You will be responsible for the Mechanical Design on a variety of projects. You will also assist the project lead in advising on the resourcing and workload within the projects Mechanical team, setting/managing design goals along with the Project Senior, attending weekly team meetings, and seeking ways to improve the efficiency and productivity of the team.
Duties
1. Work on multiple projects and organize your own workload, meeting all assigned deadlines agreed with the Project Lead.
2. Responsible for full detailed mechanical design and expected to complete these exercises independently with support from the Project Lead.
3. Responsible for calculation works to prove design for domestic, ventilation, heating, and cooling systems.
4. Coordinate design with mechanical design members.
5. Participate in design team meetings where applicable, alongside the Project Lead, and report back to the wider design team on progress and actions.
6. Manage personal design workloads, providing completed works to the Project Lead for QA in a timely manner, ensuring alignment with client target dates.
7. Constantly seek ways to improve the efficiency of your work and of your team.
8. Assist sustainability engineers with modeling input data and criteria, including the review of completed reports issued by the department for correctness.
9. Promote consultation and collaboration with your team members.
10. Contribute to the development of junior team members.
11. Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed.
Technical Ability
As the successful Mechanical Design Engineer, you will have a good working understanding of current building regulations, CIBSE documentation, British standards, BSRIA documentation, and all other general design guides associated with the building services industry.
It is essential that you are IT literate, with a working knowledge of office software, AutoCAD, and Hevacomp.
Ideally, you will be working towards Member of CIBSE accreditation as a minimum and will have a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the Building Services industry.
