Job description
Role: Senior Human Factors Specialist
Overview: The Senior Human Factors Specialist is responsible for leading the Human Factors aspect in the design and evaluation of the client organisation's facilities and processes related to production and research operations. The goal is to enhance system performance and reliability through the implementation of user-centred design and assessment principles. Candidates must be prepared to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Support the Human Factors Lead Technical Authority and manage the Human Factors Discipline to ensure timely and appropriate input into project design and assurance activities.
2. Lead efforts in promoting awareness and dissemination of Human Factors knowledge, including liaising with industry counterparts, conducting exchange programs, and organising training events.
3. Lead the creation of Human Factors assessments and other technical contributions to the design process and safety justifications for various facilities, including those handling radioactive, explosive, and chemical materials.
4. Develop and maintain company-wide Human Factors standards, procedures, and work instructions.
5. Uphold high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality while fostering teamwork.
6. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on company management arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
7. Ensure compliance with Company Assurance Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) standards as well as statutory requirements.
8. Act as the interface with regulators at the project level, providing expertise in Design and Peer review processes.
9. Champion continuous improvement in Human Factors review processes.
10. Lead the production of Human Factors assessments and technical inputs for safety cases and documentation for various facilities.
11. Develop and implement corporate human factors guidance.
12. Design and deliver Human Factors training materials.
13. Provide internal Human Factors consultancy services.
14. Lead Human Factors research aligned with the organisation's activities.
15. Cultivate relationships with external resource providers.
16. Fulfil any other reasonable duties as required by the client aligned with the position and business needs.
Qualifications:
17. Essential: Higher education qualification in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
18. Desired: Degree in a Human Sciences based subject, and Registered (Chartered) Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors.
Skills & Experience:
19. Essential: Ability to collaborate effectively, adaptability to change, commitment to service excellence, leadership skills, ability to engage with decision-makers, effective planning and management, strong numeracy and literacy, excellent communication and report writing skills, proficient in technical presentations and data evaluation.
20. Desired: Good awareness of engineering and project management principles, experience in assessing radiological, chemical, and explosive hazards.
Experience:
21. Essential: Experience in human factors assessment for high hazard processes and applying human factors methods in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments.
22. Desired: Understanding of engineering and project management inputs to facilitate structured and applicable human factors work, experience in assessing radiological, chemical, and explosive hazards.
