1. Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will be a designated Oncology Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist within the hospital and will provide expert specialist advice for patients, relative and carers in relation to a lung cancer diagnosis and to other health care professionals. 3. To provide emotional support to patients, their families and staff during difficult situations e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event. 4. To be an active member of the appropriate site-specific MDT, utilising excellent communication skills, enabling maintenance of a high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations. 5. Demonstrate a high level of clinical, technical and research skills through breadth and depth of knowledge. 6. A knowledgeable clinical nurse specialist, supporting staff, the Oncology Lung Cancer Service and policy development within the specialty. 7. To develop nurse led clinics and to undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills, including advanced health assessments and Non-Medical prescribing in relation to SACT to ensure optimum patient management. 8. To ensure that the patients holistic needs are considered in the decision-making process. 9. A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice. 10. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes. 11. Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups within defined areas and ensuring that evidence-based care is embedded into practice. 12. Utilise and ensure that others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data available. 13. Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need. 14. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
