Purpose of the Role (Overview):
A motivated and skilled NPI Manufacturing Engineer is sought to join a forward-thinking and dynamic engineering team. This role is focused on leading the introduction of new products by designing, developing, implementing, and optimising manufacturing processes for antennas, avionics, logic control units, and related technologies.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the seamless transition from development to volume production, driving improvements in both design and manufacturing efficiency. This is a highly collaborative position, requiring close engagement with cross-functional teams such as design, quality, and production to align goals and streamline operations.
Key Responsibilities:
New Product Development
1. Act as the operational lead for new product introductions.
2. Drive Design for Manufacture (DFM) initiatives for new and existing products, with a focus on enabling automated manufacturing solutions.
3. Lead virtual builds and prototype stages to identify and address manufacturing challenges early in the process.
4. Plan and manage first production runs, working with cross-functional teams to validate production readiness.
5. Oversee the transition from product development to full-scale production, ensuring effective stakeholder alignment.
6. Proactively manage risks related to component obsolescence and long-term product reliability.
Manufacturing Support
1. Provide technical support for resolving issues during initial production runs.
2. Identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction, implementing continuous improvement strategies.
3. Create and maintain comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including job routings and work instructions.
Test & Validation
1. Work with test and production teams to resolve discrepancies or failure modes during testing phases.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
1. Degree-qualified in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with experience in electronic and RF components.
2. Proven experience in a manufacturing, production engineering, or technical environment, ideally focused on NPI (New Product Introduction).
3. Deep understanding of manufacturing methods, tools, equipment, and quality systems.
4. Demonstrated ability to drive productivity improvements and streamline operations.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including hands-on experience with root cause analysis techniques.
6. Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies is beneficial.
7. Knowledge of relevant industry quality standards such as EN9100 is advantageous.
8. Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across departments.
9. A strong commitment to health and safety standards within the manufacturing environment.
