About the role
Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager of the North West Super Hub, you will:
1. Lead, manage, and control the Hub across the weekend night shift, including management of up to 7 first line managers overseeing up to 200 frontline staff, ensuring optimum resource requirements against forecasted workload, and deliver an automation operation that processes up to 3.5 million items a week.
2. Ensure risk assessments for the shift are completed, safe systems of work are in place, and processes are compliant with safety requirements, operated in a safe manner, and always follow the set principles of Continuous Improvement.
3. Be responsible for the shift hub budget and overall responsibility for the effective running of the shift, driving the achievement of metrics and targets for the scorecard areas of people, customer, performance, and financial.
4. Organise and manage shift activity to maximise automation throughput by ensuring correct allocation of resources against shift plan, the correct mix of induction items, management of outfeeds, and escalation of maintenance issues.
5. Be the dedicated Person in Control (PIC) during the weekend night shift.
About You
To be truly successful in this role, you’ll possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
1. Data analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate automation performance using KPIs and metrics, identify trends and shifts in performance, and develop solutions and make improvements.
2. Strong drive, enthusiasm, and resilience, with the willingness to constantly strive to improve performance, ability to build strong working relationships and energise colleagues, and ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
3. Experience implementing Continuous Improvement techniques and change management to minimise waste and downtime.
4. Be a persuasive leader with a developed ability to identify and resolve problems.
5. Proven experience of successfully running a large operation within an automated working environment.
6. Proven experience of driving performance and change within a unionised environment.
7. Knowledge of automation, mechanical performance metrics, and the role of engineering in effective automation performance.
8. Oversight of the weekend night shift of North West Super Hub, with core hours of 19:30 - 04:00 Thursday to Friday and 16:00 - 04:00 Saturday to Sunday. As the hub operates 24/7, a degree of flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the unit.
