Regional SHEQ Advisor
Location: Barking/Site.
Coverage: UK (principally London & surrounding Counties) - M25 Corridor.
Line Reporting Manager: SHEQ Manager.
Position: Permanent - Full time.
Salary: £45,000-£50,000.
Role Description:
To assist in the management of health, safety, quality, and environmental matters within the company through the provision of professional advice and solutions, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice. The role will involve occasional weekend and/or night work.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
1. To aid in the development and implementation of Health and Safety best practices, ensuring the Company complies with current health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice, and guidance in relation to employment and service provision.
2. To work proactively with all levels of management to establish and maintain a safe system of work and a safe environment for colleagues and clients.
3. To advise and assist in the planning and promotion of health, safety, environment, and quality programs and establishing a suitable organization to put them into effect.
4. To interpret and advise on the implementation of the company's policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
5. To communicate with site teams, for example, but not limited to the delivery of TBTs.
6. Ensure that the requirements under the company's integrated management system are followed accordingly and to ensure that the contracts you cover are doing the same.
7. Discharge your specific duties for matters regarding health, safety, welfare, environment, and quality as defined in the company policy and in any procedures, efficiently and effectively.
8. Assist in monitoring the health, safety, environment, and quality performance on the contracts under your control and take such steps as are necessary to improve the performance.
9. Carry out regular/continuous site, compound, and CDM audits/inspections. There is a minimum requirement of one site audit a month on each team and sub-contractor delivering your assigned contracts.
10. Ensure that all sites are CDM compliant and the relevant documentation is in place and in date.
11. Ensure site notice boards are current and are erected in the appropriate place.
12. Attend clients' contract meetings as and when required (in addition to a SHEQ Advisor).
13. Carry out company inductions for all new starters and ensure that the relevant paperwork has been completed in its entirety along with undertaking re-inductions for existing employees and contractors.
14. Assist in the preparation of pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) and tender documentation.
15. Assist the Manager in compiling records from SHEQ related meetings.
16. Investigate the root causes of accidents, the circumstances leading up to them, introduce preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence, and compile the required reports, forwarding them to the SHEQ Manager/Director in a timely manner.
17. Assist the Manager in identifying training requirements.
18. Facilitate employee rep meetings and record minutes of the meeting. Ensure that any actions arising from the meetings have the name of the person who is responsible for closing out the action and a close-out date.
19. Ensure that when employees have done well, they are praised, and where they have contributed to a change within the company, they are informed, and that actions arising from meetings/inspections are fed back to the employee/contractor.
20. Co-ordinate with the SHEQ Department in all health, safety, environment, and quality matters.
21. Set a good personal example, wearing the required protective equipment for the site you are entering. Lead by example.
22. Ensure, as far as you are able, that effective arrangements exist to protect the health and safety of your workforce and ensure that all relevant operational and emergency procedures, codes of practice, instructions, and legislation are implemented and observed.
23. Shall be accountable to the SHEQ Manager in respect of health, safety, quality, and environmental matters.
24. Responsible for exercising a general duty of care for the health, safety, environmental, quality, and welfare of employees under your control.
25. Notify any changes in your duties to all others who may be affected by these changes.
26. Shall ensure strict adherence to the reporting and recording procedures for accidents and dangerous occurrences as required under RIDDOR.
27. Shall monitor arrangements to ensure that health and safety standards applied by contractors are satisfactory and in accordance with contract and company specifications, policy, and procedures.
28. Shall ensure that site employees work in accordance with the company's health and safety requirements, policies, and procedures along with the client's requirements.
29. Shall take appropriate action when notified of disregard of safety on site.
30. Shall ensure the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for persons working in or visiting any company operation, site, and/or premises.
31. Shall monitor the provision and effectiveness of adequate and existing welfare facilities.
32. Promote the reporting of near misses throughout the company.
33. Undertake tasks as assigned by the SHEQ Manager.
34. Comply with all reasonable requests required by the SHEQ Manager.

Qualifications / Competency:
1. NEBOSH/NCRQ Level 6 (NVQ Level 5 as a minimum standard).
2. EUSR or CSCS in a related subject.
3. NRSWA (SWQR).
4. Working knowledge of HSG47.
5. Power/Fibre/Water/Gas experience.
6. Proficient in Accident/Incident investigation & RCA.
7. Proficient in data analysis & compiling Reports.
8. Competent in core standard Microsoft Software.
