We are seeking suitably qualified lawyers to join Ipswich Borough Council’s busy in-house legal team where you will have the opportunity to get involved with the Council’s many different projects and priorities on behalf of the people of Ipswich. The work provides a lot of variety and you will be responsible for your own full caseload. We require lawyers with the following areas of specialism; Property, Planning, Commercial Contracts, Litigation and Housing Disrepair.
You will undertake all aspects of legal work within your area of specialism including drafting and negotiating documents, researching and problem solving and providing high quality accurate legal advice on a range of issues. Attending court as and when necessary if this is required within your area of specialism. You will also have the opportunity to represent the Council as legal advisor at meetings which will include Council meetings and committees.
You will be part of a friendly and supportive legal team, where you will have the opportunity to develop and expand your knowledge and experience, training and support will be offered as part of your continuous professional development.
You will be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister/Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives or if not qualified you will have a willingness to work towards those qualifications and will have extensive proven experience within your relevant area of specialism. You will be able to provide comprehensive legal advice in your legal field and of drafting, negotiating and concluding documents on complex matters with minimal supervision. You will have a “can-do attitude” and excellent communication and IT skills. You will also have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and work under pressure to meet competing priorities and deadlines.
Hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday although there may be times when you are required to attend evening meetings and work outside of normal working hours.
