As a leading investment manager of Investment Trusts, Columbia Threadneedle Investments is looking for a qualified Accountant to support its range of Investment Trusts. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills (as the role will be client facing) and ideally would possess experience of Investment Trust accounting practices and their governance.
How you'll spend your time
Working closely with the Investment Trust Company Secretaries with a particular focus on the Financial Reporting aspects (Revenue Forecasts, Budgets etc), for the Investment Trusts assigned to you, the preparation of the Interim and Year end Accounts and financial related board papers and liaison with their auditors.
* Prepare annual and interim accounts, incorporating all current accounting standards and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory and legislative issues.
* Review month end reconciliations and controls and calculate monthly net asset values for submission to the AIC within reporting deadlines. Ensure monthly net asset value schedules are circulated to fund managers and company secretaries.
* Prepare board papers, specifically schedules of portfolio information, transactions, liquidity and revenue forecasts and collate all schedules prepared by the company secretary and the investment managers. Co-ordinate the dispatch of the board papers within 7 days of the board meeting.
* Develop and maintain good working relationships with other service providers of the investment trusts (e.g. auditors, lawyers, registrars and printers).
* Ensure client administration requirements are met in accordance with management and secretarial agreements.
* Understand and monitor client investment objectives, guidelines, relevant regulation and compliance issues.
* Liaise with tax advisers to ensure timely preparation of annual tax computations and perform a detailed review of computations prior to submission to the HMRC.
* Prepare any required statutory returns, including VAT returns.
* Ensure statutory information is maintained on Blueprint and ensure this information is up to date and accurate.
* Attendance at Audit Committees and Board meetings as appropriate.
* Keep up to date on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the trusts and allocated technical areas.
To be successful in this role you will have
* An accounting qualification
* Strong communication skills
* The ambition to progress towards a Company Secretarial role if the opportunity presents itself.
It would be great if you also had
* Direct experience of Investment Company financial reporting.
* Presenting at Investment Trust Board and Audit Committee meetings.
