Main duties of the job
1. To help ensure the health and safety of the children in your care.
2. To work alongside qualified Early Years Practitioners to help provide a safe, stimulating environment to encourage children to reach their full potential.
3. To ensure that the setting remains a welcoming place for children and their parents.
4. To contribute to both individual and group activities for the children.
5. To be a key person, ensuring that every child's individual needs are catered for, helping the child to settle within the nursery, building relationships with both the child and their parent/carers, and maintaining accurate records of their learning and development under the guidance and support of the Early Year Practitioners.
6. To work as part of the team under the guidance of qualified Early Years Practitioners, usually in one room but being flexible about working in other rooms with different age groups and occasionally, working at other locations within North Bristol Trust.
7. To be aware of and understand the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage including the Welfare Requirements which is implemented and led by the manager.
8. To promote equal opportunities and follow the Valuing Diversity and Promoting Equality policy within the setting and ensure that a culturally sensitive environment is maintained.
9. To be aware of data protection and the importance of confidentiality.

Job responsibilities

6. To work closely and build a good relationship with parents and ensure all relevant information is available to parents and communicate with them daily regarding their child's welfare.
7. To work as part of the team under the guidance of qualified Early Years Practitioners, usually in one room but being flexible about working in other rooms with different age groups and occasionally, working at other locations within North Bristol Trust.
8. To attend staff training, feeding back information to colleagues and to keep up to date with childcare information.
9. To be aware of and understand the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage including the Welfare Requirements which is implemented and led by the manager.
10. To follow North Bristol Trust's and the Childcare Services Dept. policies and procedures.
11. To work towards and contribute to a quality assurance scheme.
12. To attend parents evenings to provide parents with their child's progress and developmental files and discuss any issues they feel relevant with full support from qualified early years practitioners when required.
13. To attend and contribute to staff meetings on a regular basis.
14. To maintain professional relationships, build on teamwork and share ideas.
15. To promote equal opportunities and follow the Valuing Diversity and Promoting Equality policy within the setting and ensure that a culturally sensitive environment is maintained.
16. To adhere to the setting's dress code at all times.
17. To attend staff appraisals where performing and training needs are monitored.

Person Specification

* Formal education.
* Experience in a childcare setting.
* NHS experience.
* Experience of children under 5.
