Position: Chef Annual Salary: £25,415.39 - £28,457.17 Location: Derby, Derbyshire Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Term Time Only Working Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm (40 working weeks per year) Day-to-day of the role: Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced menus within budget, considering dietary requirements. Collaborate with the Business Manager on catering strategies and best practices. Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations. Manage kitchen operations including documentation, accounting, and administrative procedures. Develop and manage staff rotas, induct and train new kitchen staff. Maintain accurate food supply records and manage stock rotation. Oversee food deliveries, ensuring accuracy and proper storage. Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment and plan periodic deep cleans. Organize and prepare for special functions, sometimes outside normal working hours. Report any equipment defects or safety concerns. Required Skills & Qualifications: Proven experience managing a catering environment, particularly with complex dietary needs. Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to a kitchen environment. Excellent literacy, numeracy, and communication skills. Experience in equipment maintenance and safety checks. Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification (Level 3 desirable). Ability to work flexibly and prioritize tasks effectively. Commitment to the health, welfare, and safeguarding of children and young adults.
