Circa £60,000 5% Welcome Bonus £1000 Flex Allowance up to 15% Bonus Benefits Construction Permanent Hybrid Gatwick Airport Project Engineer (Sustainability) As a Project Engineer working in the Construction Sustainability Programme, you will serve as the design manager for various decarbonisation projects across the airport campus. This is a fantasticopportunity to witness and influence Gatwick's transition to Net Zero first-hand. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of construction industry experts, you will be involved from an early project stage, defining the technical scope, aligning project delivery and business requirements, and making sure these are followed through from design to construction and handover. Your responsibilities will include managing the design development process, overseeing the work of external Design Consultants and Design and Build Contractors, and ensuring adherence to technical, quality, cost, schedule, and business requirements. Key projects involve replacing over 100 boilers with all-electric, non-fossil fuel plants, and transitioning to refrigerants with lower global warming potential. Your role is crucial in supporting Gatwick's sustainability goal of reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. The role Reporting to the Programme Design Manager / Senior Project Engineer, you'll play a key role in the Construction team, responsible for ensuring the design meets needs across varied £multi-million projects, including working in defined sub-programmes on complex projects. Other duties include: Developing project scope to meet the business needs along with delivering effective design management on individual projects. Developing the design brief for external design consultants, ensuring that the design contract is implemented and effectively managed through the design process. Seeking sustainable design solutions to meet project requirements, ensuring implementation of measures (such as energy-efficient design, materials selection, waste reduction, and transportation optimisation) aimed at preventing, reducing and remediating carbon emissions that arise from the construction. Working with multiple stakeholders to support the successful delivery of projects. Seeking cost effective design solutions and managing external design consultants. Providing technical input to any design changes through the lifecycle of the project. Undertaking the role of Principal Designer Contact to discharge the duties of Principal Designer (CDM Regulations 2015) with the support of CDM Advisor. What are we looking for? The live environment at Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion you'll work alongside multiple stakeholders. In addition, this role requires: University degree in Mechanical Engineering or construction-related discipline or significant experience instead of education/qualifications. Qualifications A Chartered Member of a recognised Engineering Institution is desirable. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of technical and regulatory requirements related to Building Services Mechanical Engineering. Experience in engineering design or design management on decarbonisation of buildings, heating networks or multidisciplinary projects is highly desirable. Experience in coordinating design teams and multi-discipline engineering resources with a particular focus on decarbonisation and low carbon design buildings, including mechanical, electrical, controls & screening systems is highly desirable. Knowledge of and experience in Building Services standards is desirable. Knowledge and understanding of the NEC suite of contracts is desirable. Experience in preparation of Project Manager Instructions and responses to Contractor Claims is desirable.
