Job Purpose
The successful candidate will support the JOU Roads Policing Unit service plan, with aims of reducing casualties in accordance with the Road Casualty Reduction plan. To assist the Joint Operational Unit (JOU) in achieving force targets, to reassure the public and deny criminals the use of the road network. Candidate must be able to drive in order to visit various locations across the force area.
Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
1. To attend pre-contract and traffic management meetings with local authorities and engineers and contractors, thereby representing police interest for necessary traffic management and diversions, signing etc., in connection with roadworks.
2. Attend traffic management progress meetings in connection with roadworks.
3. Maintain uniformity of standards in relation to the completion of roadworks on all roads, with particular regard to signing and recommendations to Senior Officers on policing implications.
4. Respond to proposals from the Highway Authority for Road Traffic Regulation Orders.
5. Respond to complaints from members of the public, in connection with Highway Matters.
6. Act as advisor on matters concerning roadworks and the police supervision thereof etc.
7. Attend meetings regarding Casualty Reduction and Traffic Management and Fatal collision sites.
8. Monitor and update major diversion routes for motorway and trunk road incidents.
9. Attend meetings in relation to events, to work with Traffic management companies and authorities to ensure safety on the road network.
Essential Qualifications
Educated to QCF Level 2 (5 passes including English and Mathematics) or to have undertaken work experience deemed to have brought the post-holder to a comparable level. Considerable experience in the area of Casualty Reduction and Traffic Management. Experience of inputting to and retrieving data from databases. To demonstrate a good professional working knowledge of traffic legislation and have a genuine interest in Roads Policing and Road Safety issues.
