Insurance Support Manager
Location: Glasgow
Salary: from £54,800, up to 15% bonus and health cover

Scottish Power’s risk management and insurance team sits within the global framework of the Iberdrola GERIE function. The Insurance Manager will assist the Head of Insurance in the management of operational and construction insurance programmes, and will specifically be responsible for contractual risk and claims across the UK businesses, working closely alongside Iberdrola colleagues. The role has specific focus on the risk and insurance strategy and placement for onshore construction projects, as well as contract and business risk assessments, underwriting submissions and declarations across the wider UK businesses, and the direction of property damage and business interruption insurance claims.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Ascertain and provide advice on insurable and non-insurable risks in existing operations and construction projects, e.g. Onshore Renewables Projects.
2. Implement the insurance strategy, selection and placement for major SP construction projects.
3. Liaise and communicate with brokers and businesses to ensure appropriate allocation of risk in major projects and contracts. This will include active participation in the negotiation of risk and insurance clauses with contractors and the agreement of optimal insurance placement strategy given project budget constraints.
4. Liaising with each Business to produce underwriting information for and on behalf of each Business. Support the Business owners in identifying the most appropriate strategy of risk transfer or risk retentions dependent on their specific risk appetite.
5. Provision of contract reviews in respect of insurance provisions for each Business and agree any material variation with SP or third parties to standard contract terms and conditions on a case by case basis.
6. Relationship Management on behalf of each Business in relation to property insurers and their respective experts, including for example loss adjusters.
7. Assess and support risk mitigation and loss prevention on a site and project level for each Business. Manage site and project surveys with insurers, including the clearance on all insurers’ recommendations.
8. Provide direction, assessment and guidance on existing insurance arrangements on terms, policy response and coverage, limits, indemnities, deductibles and exclusions to all stakeholders.
9. Lead and direct property and business interruption claims for SP Renewables.
10. Assist the UK Head of Insurance on more complex offshore projects when required.
What you’ll bring:
1. Degree educated or a professional qualification in any of the following disciplines: insurance, risk management, law (construction or insurance), or engineering with relevant risk or industry experience.
2. Possess relevant experience in a risk management environment, insurance markets, or renewable energy engineering. Working knowledge of risk management functions and methods including risk management environments and techniques and technical insurance knowledge.
3. Knowledge of the global insurance market workings and principles. Robust knowledge of the legal framework and model contracts for construction and services contracts.
4. Track record of claims management, particularly in an engineering environment.
5. Ability to build effective internal and external relationships and positively influence across all levels of the organisation.
6. Proven track record of successfully managing multiple priorities in a demanding work environment.
7. Proven leadership, management and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to influence at all levels.
8. Strong ability to think independently, problem solve and facilitate cooperation.
9. Ability to make, recommend and communicate decisions with confidence and clarity based on knowledge and fact.
10. Highly motivated, self-directed and results driven.
