Work type: Permanent. A rolling 3 weeks of nights (Monday to Thursday) and 1 week of days (Monday to Friday). 37 hrs per week
Location: There are a number of Night Leakage Inspector positions available across the region. The base location will be dependent on home location.
What is the purpose of the Night Leakage Inspector role and what is the working pattern?
The Night Leakage Inspector will carry out advanced leakage investigation activities in the most problematic and challenging DMA's across the region. The work will involve step testing and more complex leakage investigation activities in order to locate and promote leakage for repair. In addition, the Team will carry out activities that will achieve longer term benefits to the network, including DMA optimisation, meter servicing, commercial usage investigations and work directed by our Engineering Teams.
You will be expected to work a rolling pattern of 3 weeks of nights and one week of days so you must have the ability to work during unsociable hours.

As a Night Leakage Inspector, you will carry out leak detection and investigation activities on the Water Network to locate and promote leakage to be repaired by our service partners. You will demonstrate the ability to work hard as part of a wider team, solve problems and be thorough to deliver sustainable leakage reduction for Yorkshire Water. This will enable Yorkshire Water to hit challenging Leakage reduction targets.
You will learn or be experienced in a variety of leakage detection techniques such as sounding, correlating, step testing and utilising new leakage technologies, as well as how to differentiate usage from leakage and other network sounds. You'll be expected to carry out dynamic risk assessments and POWRA's to ensure all activities are safe and delivered with minimal customer impact and develop an understanding and capability of available corporate systems.
Where you fit in:
As a Night Leakage Inspector, you will
* Effectively and proactively investigate DMAs at night utilising advanced detection activities to locate and promote leakage which contributes to the reduction in area leakage levels
* Account for usage to eliminate non-leakage from the leakage reporting process
* Work with the Engineering Team and Night Team Leader to prioritise the correct areas for investigation
* Conduct risk assessments to ensure all activities are safe and delivered with minimal customer impact
* Validate and quantify all work promoted to service partners to ensure optimal leakage reduction
* Create and maintain strong relationships with Field and service partner personnel to help support with leakage reduction and ensure jobs are resolved
* Take ownership of private leakage jobs and manage them through to resolution
* Take responsibility for own health and safety and the health and safety of others through leadership by example and reporting through corporate systems
What skills & qualifications you will need:
* Designing and implementing complex technical step tests
* Zero pressure testing, Zone integrity tests & Pressure logging
* Leak detection and resolution using acoustic sounding equipment (listening sticks and ground microphones)
* Use correlation equipment, including the ability to use filters, carry out velocity checks and use hydrophones
* Leak detection utilising fixed and lift and shift acoustic loggers
* Use correlating loggers and be able to successfully interpret the information they provide
* Use Netbase (Latis Lite) to understand DMA day/night usage patterns, potential leaks and reductions due to repairs
* Effectively quantify and validate leakage
* Ability to work unsociable hours (consecutive nights)
* NRSWA, Water Hygiene and Manual Handling training
* Full clean driving licence
