JOINING A WINNING TEAM. This apprenticeship will develop the skillset required to paint our street cleansing vehicles to a high quality, becoming a fully qualified Vehicle Painter and Prepper. Apprentices are very important for the future of the Company as we anticipate that they will take up key roles within the Company in the future.
Wage
£19,103.76 a year
Initially on a 39 hour per week day shift, moving to a 40 hour double day shift (see 'Working Week' ). This will increase the annual salary to £19,593.60 plus an additional 20% shift allowance payable when undertaking the 40 hours shift detailed.
Training course
Vehicle damage paint technician (level 3)
Hours
(7.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am to 3.00pm on a Friday). Then moving to the double day shift, one week of earlies (5.45am to 1.45pm) and then one week of lates (2.15pm to 10.15pm) alternating weekly.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The Paint Department's responsibility is to prepare and paint all major assemblies, sub-assemblies and other items as required to maximise utilisation of the spray booths by minimising the spray times.
You will be taught to:
* Mark out and mask all vehicle parts
* Loading and unloading the monorail system
* Prepare all components for painting including shot blasting, filling, sealing and cleaning to an acceptable finish ready for painting
* Take personal responsibility for maintaining high standards of process and product quality
* Operate within the constraints of risk assessments in place for defined tasks
* Actively participate in PDCA meetings and quality circles

* Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
* Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
* Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
* Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
* Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment

Other requirements
You will be required to attend College for 12 block weeks of 5 days during your Apprenticeship. This is in Derby and is fully expensed by the Company. You will enhance your development and practice your skills learnt in a supportive environment in the Company with an experienced mentor.
