Location: Clumber Park, Estate Office, Gardens House, Worksop, S80 3BE
Contract Type: Permanent / Full-time
Reference/IRC: IRC160263
Closing Date: 23rd March 2025
Salary: £26,793 pa
As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
The advertised salary for this role will be in effect from 1st April.
What it's like:
Reporting to one of the Area Rangers, you'll join a team of 9 members. We invest in training and development opportunities for our people with regular training and courses offered.
Clumber Park is one of the most visited pay-for-entry National Trust sites, with over 700,000 visitors annually. The Nottinghamshire portfolio covers 4 properties, with Clumber Park being the largest property. We have a 100ha ornamental lake with a fantastic mosaic of habitats surrounding it; from mixed woodlands to lowland heathland and parkland.
The landscape is Grade 1 covering a 1,548ha area of Clumber, and one third of this is classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Our other properties include The Workhouse, Infirmary, and Mr Straw's House, which offer a way for people to engage with nature besides Clumber Park.
Our valuable volunteers assist us in our work and maintaining areas. We also have educational groups visit regularly who help with tree planting and scrub clearance projects across the portfolio.
What you'll be doing:
You’ll help protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings, and machinery, and pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. When you meet people, you’ll take the time to talk and answer questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.
You’ll ensure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
You'll also be part of the duty management rota, responsible for the running of the property during opening hours, and the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry, or complaint.
Who we're looking for:
1. Practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
2. Happy to talk to everyone about your work and why it matters
3. Able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines
4. Experienced in managing land, working outdoors, access, and conservation
5. Able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates
