Job Description:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for trainee technicians to join our Data Center team as part of our Work-Based Learning Program (WBLP). These trainees will participate in our 12-week work and training program in an AWS Data Center, working with the Engineering Operations Team.
Trainees will work to ensure that the data center's mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety equipment and plumbing operates at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.
Key job responsibilities:
1. Assist in the operation and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and HVAC equipment within the Data Center/Facility
2. Provide assistance to contractor or data center engineers to ensure proper operation, maintenance of all facility equipment and building racks
3. Perform site walkthroughs to verify proper operation of Facility Equipment and Monitoring System
4. Ensure overall availability and reliability for our customers within our Data Centers
5. Install new rack equipment
6. Decommission existing racks
7. Assist root cause analysis of equipment failures
8. Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal SLA
9. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
In addition, all candidates should be willing to work both independently and with a team. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful.
Physical Requirements:
1. Walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch. Work at heights and from ladders
2. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds unassisted; and participate in group lifts for 36 pounds or more
3. Daily travel between sites may be required
Candidates must hold the right to work in the UK before or by the commencement of the program.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent education
2. 18 years or older
3. Experience with Microsoft Office
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Has taken or is interested in STEM or vocational course curriculum related to electrical or mechanical field
2. Knowledge of generic mechanical-room infrastructure such as chillers, Cooler Units, and fan controls
3. Knowledge of electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers and power distribution panels.
