We are looking for an exceptional midwife with substantial clinical and managerial experience for the position of Matron - Inpatient Wards, Infant Feeding Team and Maternity Helpline to join the team on our journey towards excellence!
The Matron of the Inpatient Wards, Infant Feeding Team and Maternity Helpline is pivotal to the provision of high quality and effective service to the users of Homerton maternity services. The role is critical to the successful delivery of key Maternity and Trust strategies, such as the transformation of the Templar, a postnatal ward to having a working transitional care and a bigger antenatal inpatient area.
As a key member of the senior midwifery team, you will be a highly visible member of the clinical multi-disciplinary maternity team and will be 30% clinical and 70% non-clinical management duties. You will be an advocate for high quality patient experience and choice, and demonstrate excellence in clinical practice.
The Matron will be a team player is inclusive and democratic, and is prepared to manage staff to ensure delivery of a cost effective, efficient and equitable service.
As lead for the Inpatient Wards, Infant Feeding Team and Maternity Helpline you will have responsibility for overseeing key areas of service in antenatal, postnatal and new-born care delivery, ensuring women have early access to maternity services.
Main Duties of the Job
The Matron role will in conjunction with the Director of Midwifery, Deputy Director of Midwifery and Clinical Leads for inpatient to provide Professional and Managerial leadership across the maternity service at the Homerton University Hospital, ensuring a high quality service for maternity care. The role will be 30% clinical and 70% non-clinical management duties and being a member of the senior midwife 24 hour on-call team. Lead the maternity helpline, infant feeding team and postnatal and antenatal ward services, ensuring high quality, efficient and effective patient care which is innovative and responsive to users' needs. Line manages direct reporting Band 7 midwives. Ensure rotas are in place for a safe, efficient and cost-effective staffing. Lead on bed management on wards, improving flow and discharge processes to ensure the most efficient use of capacity, whilst ensuring high quality and safe care, escalating operational challenges as indicated. Investigate and monitor accidents and incidents, complaints relating to Inpatient Wards, Infant Feeding Team and Maternity Helpline via Patient Safety and Incident Response framework (PSIRF) as a consequence ongoing improvement in service provision and patient experience. Be accountable to the Divisional Manager for the financial performance of key budgets as delegated. Lead in the implementation of HR policies and participate in formal procedures.
