Job Overview
Work as part of the Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Team, supporting medical and nursing teams with sick and/or deteriorating patients.
Be an expert clinical practitioner, prioritising and planning workload to support ward teams.
Act as an expert resource for the MDT, specialty, directorate, and Trust in regard to the recognition and rescue of the deteriorating child.
Respond to escalations and paediatric emergency 2222 calls.
Facilitate effective communication between clinical teams and the MDT.

Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse
A Clinical PCCOT Band 7 nurse.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Critical Care Outreach Clinical Team part time at Nottingham's Children’s Hospital (PCCOT).
You will be a clinically credible nurse experienced in paediatric acute or critical care nursing, utilising clinical expertise and specialist knowledge to deliver high-quality evidence-based care to acutely unwell or deteriorating ward-based patients.
A recognised children’s critical care qualification is desirable and/or significant acute emergency pathway experience. You will need to be an APLS/EPALS provider.
You will have proven leadership and negotiation skills and demonstrate effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team – a vital component of this role.
The paediatric CCOT team offers a 24/7 service, with one clinical Band 7 PCCOT nurse working per shift. We collaborate with Paediatricians and nurse specialists using evidence-based specialist skills and practices in the care of sick and deteriorating children.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Job Summary
Provide specialist advice and clinical support to the Children’s Hospital and the wider Trust regarding the acutely ill/deteriorating child in the non-critical care environment.
Assist staff with planning and delivery of care to higher dependency patients, including supporting patients on the spinal pathway in the neurosciences ward.
Review patients with high PEWS scores and support ward teams with their care.
Support staff with more complex procedures.
Act as an expert resource for the MDT, specialty, directorate, and Trust regarding the recognition and rescue of the deteriorating child.
Respond to escalations and paediatric emergency 2222 calls.
Review patients at risk of clinical deterioration that may not trigger PEWS, such as fragile children or "watchers".
Provide short periods of high dependency care on the ward until a patient improves or a critical care bed is available.
Facilitate escalation of treatment to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit based within the Children’s Hospital.
Assist in the care of Level 1/2 LTV patients on the ward.
Support delivery of High Flow Oxygen using the AIRVO device to ward patients requiring this level of support.
Review all patients following discharge from Critical Care and Neonatal services.
