We are looking for a Building Surveyors (Asbestos) to assist our repairs and maintenance teams with good building surveying knowledge and relevant surveying experience of managing Asbestos.
An experienced Asbestos Surveyor is required with extensive experience combined with specialist qualifications related to asbestos (S301, P402).
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out asbestos surveys across our varied 15,000 housing stock, together with our asset portfolio of corporate operational, commercial and community assets including schools.
Supporting us to maintain and improve our properties, ensure the right repair at the right time and help us provide suitable homes when needed.
Surveying assets, updating stock data and condition, evaluating and diagnosing what work is required, assessing the best options to carry out the work and issuing response repairs.
Assisting with the management of asbestos on behalf of Portsmouth City Council in accordance with its asbestos management policy. This will include ad hoc sampling and inspection of assets, and a rolling programme of management surveys & re-inspections, including sampling in accordance with the approved code of practice L127 ensuring that all site asbestos registers are correct and updated at regular intervals and the asbestos register is maintained.
Arrange managed asbestos removal work using specialist contractors.
Qualification:
HNC level qualification in an appropriate building or construction related subject or alternatively demonstrate sufficient relevant experience of surveying properties in a repairs and maintenance environment.
A full driving licence and provide a car for work, as you will be visiting sites across Portsmouth and will need to travel effectively between them. You may also be required to occasionally attend evening meetings as appropriate.
Skills & Experience:
Be able to conduct management asbestos surveys, including sampling and record the presence of asbestos.
An awareness of building related legislation as appropriate and be able to apply as necessary with the ability to advise others.
Knowledge and experience of construction related health & safety legislation knowledge generally and be able to apply specifically the working at height regulations, CDM Regulations and Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
Planning skills and demonstrate the ability to be organised and methodical when undertaking surveys, preparing and managing projects to ensure effective time management.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
