About the role
As an Associate Specialist in Acute Internal Medicine, you will be based at hospital site, providing care to acute medicine patients through management of a ward with junior support and outpatient setting. You will be expected to participate in teaching and mentoring of junior medical staff, medical students and specialist nurses.

Duties and responsibilities of an Acute Medicine Associate Specialist:
Rapidly assess and manage acutely ill patients, initiate investigations and stabilize conditions.
Patient Assessment and Management: Rapidly assess and manage acutely ill patients, initiate investigations and stabilize conditions.
Clinical Decision-Making: Make independent decisions on admissions, transfers and discharges while working with multidisciplinary teams.
Emergency Procedures: Perform life-saving procedures and manage critical conditions.
Supervision and Teaching: Supervise junior staff, provide guidance and train healthcare professionals.
Service Development: Contribute to developing protocols, service improvement and audits for quality care.
Communication: Communicate clearly with patients, families and healthcare teams, maintaining accurate documentation.
Risk Management: Participate in clinical governance, manage incidents and ensure patient safety.
Out-of-Hours Work: Handle on-call and out-of-hours responsibilities, leading during emergencies.
Liaison with Primary Care: Coordinate with GPs and community services for smooth patient discharges and follow-up care.
Professional Development: Engage in CPD, training and staying updated with medical advancements.
This role ensures effective care for acutely ill patients, bridging junior doctors and consultants.

5. Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS)
6. MRCP or FRCP or Equivalent

7. Expected entry on GMC specialist register within 6/12 months or applied for entry (through CESR/Portfolio/CCT Pathway)
8. Candidate eager to gain entry onto the specialist register with the GMC.
