About the role:
We are partnering with an outstanding special needs school in Okehampton to recruit a skilled and dedicated SEMH teaching assistant. This rewarding position involves working with students from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4, so adaptability and a flexible approach are essential.
The students you will support have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, often alongside challenges such as autism, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or speech and language issues. Success in this role requires excellent behaviour management skills, patience, and a resilient, positive attitude.
Key responsibilities:
* Provide general classroom support and deliver small group interventions.
* Offer one-to-one assistance tailored to individual student needs.
* Collaborate with teachers in lesson planning, preparing resources and setting up activities.
* Create a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters student wellbeing.
* Help students stay motivated, engaged and on track to achieve their full potential.
About you:
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience: Previous work with children in the UK or individuals with additional needs.
* Understands SEN: A solid grasp of special educational needs and effective support strategies.
* Demonstrates key attributes: Resilience, adaptability, hard work, and a good sense of humour.
